Wholesale Sterling Silver Beads FAQs
How can you tell if a bead is sterling silver?
Though all of ELF925’s sterling silver beads are true 925 sterling silver, and you don’t have to worry about their authenticity, there are a few different ways to check and see if your other beads are sterling silver or not:
- The hallmark test: Check your beads for a small 925 imprinted on any portion of the item. You may also find the marking of “ster”, “sterling silver”, or “sterling”.
- The magnet test: If your piece is drawn to the magnet, that most likely means it does not contain 92.5% of silver, as silver is not magnetic.
- The scientific test: By safely dropping a small drop of nitric acid onto a small section of the silver, you can see if you have genuine silver, or another metal. If the test area turns green, you are not dealing with genuine silver.
- The rubbing test: Rub a piece of light-colored cloth on your silver item, and if a black mark appears on the cloth that means it is genuine silver. That black mark is the tarnish that is caused by oxidation.
- The weight test: Handle a piece of genuine silver and the item you are questioning, if they are similar in weight, you are most likely dealing with real sterling silver.
ELF925 takes pride in offering silver beads in 925 silver. We’re confident that you’ll—and most importantly your customers—be impressed by our sterling silver beads at wholesale prices.
What is better, 925 silver or sterling silver?
Though sterling silver and 925 silver have different names, they are virtually the same thing. Both sterling silver beads and 925 silver beads are a silver alloy. That means they are genuine silver mixed with other metals. The 925 represents the fact that 92.5% of the item’s mixture is genuine silver, and the other 7.5% is other metals. Sterling silver is the same concept, but can have higher or lower values of genuine silver.
All of ELF925’s decorative and plain beads are 925 silver, nickel-free, and meet the highest standards set by the EU and US. Our bead bracelets are durable, long lasting, can be worn in the shower, and look elegant all at the same time.
